Skills (Section)

A dedicated resume section listing your hard and soft skills.

The Skills section of a resume lists your hard skills (specific technical abilities) and sometimes soft skills (interpersonal qualities). It's typically a separate section near the bottom or in a sidebar, with skills listed in a clear, scannable format.

The Skills section should include 8 to 15 skills relevant to the job you're applying for. Fewer than 8 looks thin; more than 15 looks padded. Focus on hard skills — specific tools, technologies, methodologies, and languages — because those are the ones ATS systems scan for. Always tailor the Skills section to match the job description.

Example: A front-end developer's Skills section might list: "JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Next.js, HTML5, CSS3, Tailwind, GraphQL, REST APIs, Git, Figma, Jest, Cypress."
