Professional Summary

A 2-4 sentence paragraph at the top of your resume summarizing who you are.

A professional summary (also called a resume summary, career summary, or profile statement) is a short paragraph at the top of your resume — below your contact info — that introduces who you are professionally, what you're good at, and what you bring. It's the first real content a recruiter reads.

A good summary is 2 to 4 sentences long and includes: your job title and years of experience, your top 2 or 3 specialized skills, and at least one measurable achievement or unique credential. Avoid buzzwords like "hard-working" or "motivated" — they mean nothing. Instead, be specific about what you've actually done.

Example: "Senior Software Engineer with 7 years building scalable backend systems in Go and Python. Led the migration of a 2M-user monolith to microservices at Acme Corp, cutting API latency by 60%."
